Find below a very interesting and inspiring article on saving money tips. Happy reading!

10 Tips That Will Help Teens To Save Money
By: charlemont

A cornerstone of building a sound financial future for your teenager is to teach him or her her effective strategies to save money. Sounds easy, but even many adults don't know how to do it. And that could be because no one ever taught them. Parents can show their teens ways to save money by serving real-life examples.

The tips on how to save money are easy to use. In fact, there are no complications involved. Patience and persistence are needed, sure, but no special education or knowledge is required. Here's a list of ways to save money specially created for teens.

1. Do not put your computer in "standby" mode. Instead, shut it down. Do same with the monitor. While the power consumption in standby mode is little, it still adds up over the year. Same applies to all electronic appliances.

2. Take shower instead of bath. This will lower water bills tremendously. Also, use the possibilities to take shower outside home. For me, with two weekly visits to a swimming pool, it's easy and natural.

3. If you do not plan to buy anything, then do not take cash when leaving home. If you have no cash in the purse or pocket, you can't spend it. Sounds simple and works great.

4. Have your parents open a savings account for you. Depending on the financial institution, your starting deposit can be as low as 1 dollar. Not much, right? But with due attitude and dedication, you'll start making a small fortune pretty quickly.

5. Pay yourself first. Set aside part of your income for savings, before spending anything. When give allowance or any unexpected sum of money, take out 10% of it and save. Make a habit of spending less than you get. It will help to pave the way for financially prosperous future.

6. Set goals that appeal to you. Decide what you want -- a multimedia computer or a bike? Perhaps your parents will add some 10% of the sum. When you want something badly, saving is easier.

7. Plan major purchases ahead. Same applies to parties. Wait at least a week or so before purchasing. Chances are, you will change your mind or the price will drop. In both cases, you win.

8. Monthly allowance will teach you to save and spend wise. When you have to cover a month of expenses, the temptation to spend half of the allowance at once won't seize you.

9. Keep a checkbook. It's an old-fashioned method to put down records of all money received and spent. Doing so helps teens know where they stand financially. Analyzing your records over the month you'll discover where you could spend less, or when you bought something you didn't really need.

10. Get a piggy bank for a change. Use only dollar bills when paying. When the year is over, you'll have a lump sum of saved money to buy Christmas gifts.

By saving money teens learn patience and persistence. Every teen who embraces even one of these habits is well on his or her way to financial stability. It doesn't really matter how many of these tips you try to use. Start with just one, and when mastered enough, get to another. Saving money is what makes teens financially aware for the adult life.

Article Directory: http://www.articledashboard.com

Browse our archive or the right sidebar for more interesting articles on saving money tips. It is so interesting, thus we hope you enjoy your reading and apply the saving money tips recommended here. Happy reading!

Cheap Text Books Are A Great Way To Save Money If You’re A College Student.
by Muna wa Wanjiru

If you’re in college you most likely fit the stereotype of the poor college student, eating ramen and sucking down coffee to stay fed and awake for your late-night study sessions. College is expensive, and with some private college tuitions reaching over $35,000 it’s easy to come out of a four year university over $100,000 in debt.

Of course, tuition doesn’t cover everything; college students still need to pay for things like housing, clothes, food, and books. Many students’ schedules make it hard, if not impossible, to work a part-time job while in school, especially if they take part in any extracurricular activities. Summer work is about all that’s available, and summer jobs can be low priorities to students looking for solid internships to help out their graduate school or future employment opportunities. Unfortunately, many of the best internships are unpaid, leaving students even more strapped for cash.

One of the most unexpected expenses for first-year college students is when the first walk into the bookstore. Sure, if you’re a first-year you realize that you’re going to have to buy books, but there’s a good chance you didn’t realize that the books for one semester can easily cost $1,000. “But wait, it’s probably not so bad,” the first-years argue, “I can just sell my books back at the end of the semester and get my money back.” Though this strategy may work for some students, for most it’s nothing but a pipe dream.

It’s rare for a book to fetch more than half of its cover price when it’s resold to a bookstore. Also, professors often change textbooks or won’t teach the same course from one semester to the next, so your local college bookstore may not even take your books back. This is fine if you’re an English major reading Jane Eyre or Catcher in the Rye, at least you can build up your personal book collection, but if you get stuck with something like Practical Economics the book will probably do nothing but gather dust on the shelves.

Cheap text books are a great way to save money if you’re a college student, but they can sometimes be tough to track down. Used books are by far the easiest way to find cheap text books; they can often be found right alongside the new books in your campus bookstore. An even better way to find cheap text books is to by them directly from students at the end of a semester. If you know what classes you’ll be taking and what textbooks they’ll require it’s easy to find cheap text books from the students who are already in the class and looking to sell off their books. By cutting out the middleman you can find cheap text books and they can sell their books at a better profit.

Want more saving money tips? One way to save money on electricity is by installing your own home solar power. Find below another great saving money tips.

Home Solar Power: Save Money With Your Own Home Solar Power System
Author: WChurchill

Home solar power systems convert sunlight into electricity through the use of solar panels. For an average home about ten watts per square foot of electrical energy will be gathered per day. This will vary depending on a number of factors including panel size and type, amount of sunlight, and length of time direct sunlight is available.

A home solar power system will cost considerably more as an initial investment, but will be very cost effective in the long run. There are two main reasons for considering home solar power. First, of course, is the saving on your electric utility bill and secondly is the fact that solar power is renewable and environmentally friendly. There are NO polluting side effects.

There are 5 main components of a home solar power system that is connected to the electric grid. If you choose to be totally off-grid, it will also be necessary to have a storage battery to store excess energy your system generates.

• Solar panels
• Power converter
• An electric panel
• A utility meter
• The utility grid
• A storage battery unit (for off grid)

Solar panels are normally placed on the roof of your house, but may also be placed in any area that receives direct sunlight. Either installation must be placed to receive as much direct sunlight as possible. The solar panels convert sunlight into DC power.

The power converter is necessary to change the DC power into AC power which is what you receive from an electric utility. AC or alternating current is what household lights and appliances use.

The electric panel brings the power from the power converter to the breaker box. It is then distributed to the lights and outlets in the house.
In an on-grid system the electric utility meter handles excess power from your system, causing your electric meter to run backwards when your system is supplying power to the utility grid. If you use this you receive credit from the electric utility that is applied against what you need from them when your home solar power system does not cover your usage.

And the last component in an on-grid system, the utility grid, will supply you with electricity during the night, on cloudy days, and when you need more electricity than your home solar power system produces.

If you will not be connected to the grid system -- whether by choice or because the location is remote and not supplied with electricity, you will also need a storage battery unit to store the excess power from your home solar power system for use at night.

Is a home solar power system right for you? Maybe. Even though the initial costs are higher, the payback may well be worth considering. If you are building, remodeling, or even refinancing your home, the cost of home solar power can be included in the mortgage. Also, keep in mind that both state and federal governments offer attractive tax incentives when you install a home solar power system.

And best of all – wouldn't be GREAT to never pay another electric bill ?

Renewable energy - Free energy -Green energy
Why wouldn't you do it if you have the opportunity?

Source: http://www.articlealley.com/article_519793_27.html

There are a handful of saving money tips on our archive. Find below a great saving money tips on air conditioners. Hope you enjoy this saving money tips. Happy reading!

Air Conditioners - How to Cut Running Costs in Half
Author: Ethan K. Roberts

In today's world, most people have invested in one form of an air conditioner or another. We have either window air conditioners in our homes or central air conditioners. They keep us cool in the extreme summer heat without fail; however, have you ever set back and looked at the costs of running an air conditioner? When compared to the common household fan the amount of electricity required to run an air conditioner is phenomenal.

When using an air conditioner there are many different factors that can directly affect the cost of running it. These factors include the geographical location of your home, where you live and the amount of work the air conditioner has to do greatly influence the cost. If you live in an area that has mild summers and extremely cold winters, obviously your air conditioner will not have to work as hard. However, if you live in an area, that has warm winters and boiling summers the air conditioner will have to work double time to maintain comfort.

The difference in weather conditions from year to year will affect the costs as well. This is basically geared towards the difference in costs per year. One summer might be cooler than the next, which will lead to a greater bill.

The efficiency rating of your air conditioner plays an important role in the amount of electricity used. Most all appliances in today's world are rated, when you purchase an air conditioner it will have a tag telling you the amount of electricity that appliance uses. Look for air conditioners that use minimal electricity, which will save you money each year. If you have a model that is 10 years or older, it is definitely time to consider a new one.

Another important factor is the size of the air conditioner versus the house-cooling load. All air conditioners come in different sizes, and each will state the amount of space it is designed to cool. For example, an apartment could do with just one or two window air conditioners, while a three-bedroom house could not. Closely consider the amount of space you need to cool when considering an air conditioner. While larger air conditioners will cost more money, it will typically save you money in the long run on usage.

The setting on your thermostat greatly effects the cost. A higher setting will result in the air conditioner running less, while lowering the setting will cause it to run more often. One electric company suggests keeping the thermostat above 78 degrees. This can save you 10 to 20% on cooling costs.

Finally, the local cost of electricity influences the general cost of running your air conditioner. This is something you have no control over, however, you can control your own cost by saving energy.

Here is a general look at the difference of running an air conditioner vs. running a Ceiling or oscillating fan, at medium speed.

Running a central air conditioner that is three ton (and of average efficiency) for 8 hours per day for 15 days per month, with the average rate per kWh (kilowatt per hour) being 0.17, the average cost per month for the air conditioner alone will be $97.92. Amazing isn't it? This does not even include washer, dryer, lights, refrigerator, or stove, only the air conditioner.

On the other hand, running a ceiling fan or oscillating fan at medium speed, for 8 hours per day, for a full 30 days, at an average rate per kWh of 0.035 is only $1.43. With this comparison you could run 68 fans for a full month before you would reach the cost of the central air conditioning unit.

There are many other things you can do to lower you electric bill. Things such as, inspect, clean, or replace your air conditioner filters monthly. When you are not in your home, raise the temperature on your thermostat, keeping in mind pets when you do. Lower the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees, wash only full loads in your dishwasher or clothes washer, and use the energy saving cycle on the dryer.

Other steps you can take include, replacing incandescent bulbs with fluorescent lamps, this could save up to 75% on lighting costs. You should also caulk all windows, doors, and pipes to prevent air leaks in or out, use weather stripping around windows, doors and pipes as well. Have your ducts tested for air leaks; leaking ducts can reduce the efficiency of your air conditioner by up to 20%.

Ethan K. Roberts writes on a variety of topics not limited to air conditioners. Also available are more articles about central air conditioners and portable air conditioners.

Source: http://www.articlealley.com/article_28434_27.html

Find more saving money tips on the right sidebar or simply browse our archives. By doing a few simple tasks around your house you could save money in a number of different ways. Read below for the top tips that can be used and you can help with cutting emissions.

Save Money on Heating

Loft Insulation
Make sure that the loft in the house is fully insulated; remember heat rises and most of the heat that you generate in your house is lost through the roof. It is simple to buy good quality loft insulation from all the main DIY superstores and this could be one investment very much worth making.

Good Quality Windows
Ensure that your windows are in good condition, no broken or cracked pains, the wood surround is in good condition, the paintwork is kept in good order with regular refreshes of paint to stop rot and damp. Double glazed windows are a must if you want to keep the heat in and stop the cold and damp from coming through. If the budget extends then even some new replacement windows could be a great investment.

Internal and External Doors
Make sure that you have good external doors, these should be double glazed also and be fitted properly with seals for the letter box and the surrounds. The internal doors in the house should all shut properly and make good seals and have draft excluders where appropriate.

Save Money on Electricity

Energy Saving Light Bulbs
Fit energy saving light bulbs to all your main lights, this not only helps to keep your electricity bills down but at the same time you are doing your part for the environment. On average the light saving bulb will last up to 12 times longer than the normal light bulb and reduce the amount of electricity required by reducing the amount of electricity lost in heat compared to a standard bulb.

No Electrical Equipment on Standby
Make sure you turn your electrical equipment and sockets off when you are not using them, especially television, videos, DVD players that have standby modes, these use more electricity than you would think.

Electrical Safety Checks
Get your wiring and circuits professionally checked to ensure that your appliances are working to their optimum capacity.

Save Money on Gas

Regular Gas Safety Checks
Make sure you keep your boiler serviced and well maintained in order to improve efficiency.

Insulate the Hot Water Tank
Ensure that your hot water tank is also well insulated to keep the heat in and keeps the water hotter longer. You can buy a jacket for the tank from the DIY stores and remember that it is worth insulating the pipes as well.

Save Money on Water

Toilet Flush
If you want to reduce the amount of water that the toilet cistern uses for each flush then there are devices available from DIY shops that can be used to reduce the amount of water used. These are easily fitted and can reduce the amount of water used per flush by as much as 1 litre.

Shower don't Bath
Take showers instead of baths this reduces the amount of water that is used and will save you money on heating the water and the amount of water used. A bath can take between 15 ? 25 gallons of water where as a shower uses around 60% less water than the bath.

Summary
Doing just a few of these will help to save you money; some require more of an initial outlay than others but are well worth doing in the long term. If you own your own house then it could be a good investment and if you are renting a property then instruct your letting agent/landlord to make a plan of necessary changes to help protect the environment, their property and your pocket.

For more articles and information on property then check out Rentright Property Articles and Portal

Source: http://www.articlealley.com/article_100677_63.html

Wanna know about saving money tips on utility? One way is to see if we can reduce the cooking times. Another way is to see if a different appliance does the same job and yet uses less energy. Yet another way is to see if we can reduce wastage. Here are some tips.

1. Defrost food first before cooking it. You can do it in a fridge overnight or in a microwave if you want the defrosting done quickly.

2. Put a lid on the pan when you're cooking. When a pan is covered, heat loss is reduced. That means you can set the stove on low to keep the content simmering. The cooking time will also be reduced.

3. Use a pressure cooker to cook foods. Since it operates at a higher pressure, water therefore boils at a higher temperature. The higher temperature of the water and steam causes the food to be cooked much faster, using less energy.

4. Don't use a small pan on a large burner. Match the sizes of the pan and of the heating element.

5. Use flat-bottomed pans instead of warped-bottom ones, particularly when cooking on electric stove.

6. Stir fry meat and vegetables. It takes more time to chop up the meat, but the meat then cooks much quicker.

7. Use a kettle to boil water instead of using a stove top burner. Boil only the amount of water that is needed, whether it is for making tea or for cooking.

8. When baking in the oven, experiment to see if preheating time can be kept to a minimum or done away all together.

9. Try not to open the oven door to check on cooking progress as a lot of heat escapes otherwise. It can be helpful having an oven thermometer or an oven-safe meat thermometer.

10. Where possible, use a microwave oven. Microwaves uses a considerable amount of energy when in use but it more than makes up for it by the much reduced cooking times. It draws much less electricity than an electric oven for the same job.

11. Use a toaster oven to do small baking jobs instead of an oven. Using a toaster oven decreases the area to be heated and in so doing saves energy. Use it for things like baking potatoes, fish sticks, chicken nuggets etc.

12. Use a convection microwave that offers, within the same unit, microwave, convection oven and grill features. Some of these microwave ovens can cook food using both convection and microwave at the same time, providing crisp brown exteriors and retaining juiciness for meats and chickens.

13. Use a steamer for cooking meals like fish and vegetables. It cannot burn the food and has a relatively low power consumption.

14. Use a crock pot (slow cooker) instead of a stove top burner to cook soups and stews that typically take a long time. It will let these dishes simmer gently.

15. Use a thermal cooker for things like soups and stews. A thermal cooker has 2 parts: an inner pan and an outer container. The inner pan is used to bring foods to a boil on a stove. It is then placed inside the insulated outer container and sealed until cooked.

16. Use an induction cooker. It uses magnetic induction to transfer heat from the cooker to the pan on the surface. The cooktop surface also stays relatively cool while the food in the pan is cooking. Induction cookers have a very high energy efficiency, much higher than traditional stoves.

17. Use an electricity monitor to measure the electrical usage of various electrical appliances in the kitchen.

The last point is worth mentioning in a little more detail. Some electricity monitors not only measure the electricity consumption but also work out the actual cost. All you have to do is to input the electric rate found on the utility bill and the monitor does the calculation for you.

Using an electricity monitor, you can find out the usage costs of your kitchen electrical appliances and then come up with your own list of energy saving tips and ideas.

Find out more information about electricity monitor and other practical electrical gadgets. Here are interesting saving money tips that you can apply. Enjoy reading! and apply the saving money tips recommended here.

Save Gas and Lower Your Cost of Transportation

The best way to save gas is to leave your car in the driveway. The more it sits in the driveway, the less often you'll need to take it to the gas station, and that means you save gas and save money. It's a simple approach and it works very well.

Think about how many dollars in fuel each of your trips require, and you might be surprised how much discretionary trips are costing you. Each discretionary trip that you avoid will help you save gas and save money.

There are plenty of things each of us can do to save gas, but as you probably know, there is a different kind of price we have to be willing to pay. Often that price comes in the form of inconvenience or a shift in lifestyle.

If you want to get serious about saving gas, I have 36 ideas to share with you. Some of the most effective of these are:

* Buy fuel in bulk during annual low prices. That means stocking up on 500 to 1,500 gallons of fuel during January or February. A big money saver, but not feasible for many people who live in urban areas.
* Minimize the times and distances you drive your car for discretionary purposes by planning your activities. This means that some days you don't drive at all.
* Live closer to where you often need to go. This could eliminate the need for a motor vehicle entirely. What a great way to save money.
* Use alternate transportation, such as a bicycle, bus, train or consider walking. The thought doesn't feel right to many of us, as we love our cars and the convenience and freedom they give us, but we do have choices other than our motor vehicles.
* Tele-commute. A great way to cut the cost of transportation and reduce stress. If you have a job that would fit a tele-commuting scenario, run the idea by your employer. Even part time tele-commuting can make a big difference in the amount of money you spend on fuel.

In my own personal crusade to save gas and lower my overall cost of living, I have taken the following steps to reduce my fuel consumption and lower my transportation costs. I have reduced fuel costs by about 75% now that I:

* Operate a home-based business that allows me to tele-commute.
* Wait until I have several reasons before making a trip, especially for errands.
* Share errands and driving with my neighbors.
* Buy fuel in bulk at the lowest price of the year. This saves up to $1 per gallon.
* Reside in a less congested area.
* Purchase vehicles with a deliberate focus on fuel efficiency.
* Drive more conservatively.

My perspective on fuel prices and the cost of transportation is simple. No one is going to save me from unwise decision-making except me, so I better get with it. I can't influence the energy markets, but I can influence my own personal choices in light of those marketplaces.

Clair Schwan is an expert in frugal living, and has 36 ways to save gas, get better gas mileage and purchase cheaper fuel. I found this very interesting articles related to saving money tips on the net, and i would like to share it with you. Enjoy reading!

Save Real Money on Groceries

I'm at the grocery store waiting in line to pay for my groceries and I indulge in one of my favorite past times -- checking out the shopping carts of other people. I take note of the woman in front of me and what's in her basket. Name brand potato chips, flour and cereal. She's loaded up on the gelatin dessert that the store has on sale. Pre-packaged meals, frozen dinners. Nail polish and floor cleaner.

Oh, the money I could save money on this woman on her groceries. Fortunately, here are the Cheap Chick Tricks for grocery shopping for you.

Grocery Trick No. 1

Go to the market just once a week, on the same day of the week. This may prove harder than it sounds, but it will save you money. How? The first is obvious: your transportation costs. Secondly, it will focus your efforts. You know you're there to shop for food and you need to get one week's worth of food. It eliminates those multiple runs to the grocery store to just pick up a quart of milk and some bread, where you walk out with $50 worth of stuff.

Grocery Trick No. 2

Go to the market with a list and a not-to-exceed budget. Your list will come from your menus for the week. That means you've got to come up with seven dinners, seven lunches, and seven breakfasts, plus any snacks for the week, figure out the groceries you'll need for each and write it down. You are not going to buy anything that is not on that list. That means if you run out of celery, you'll wait a week to buy it. (See Trick No. 1 above). No quick trips to the local store mid-week. Set an amount that you are going to spend on groceries (including eating out) and don't go over it. Bring a set amount of cash to pay for your groceries, if that makes it easier.

Grocery Trick No. 3

Never stock up. What? Am I crazy? Let's see why I say never stock up. How many times have you made banana bread with leftover bananas? Or, more likely, thrown them out? Let's say flavored gelatin dessert is on sale for ten packages for one dollar. It's not on your list, but at that price, you eagerly throw ten boxes into your cart. You've just spent a dollar you don't need to. If you buy those ten boxes, chances are pretty good a year from now nine of them will still be sitting on the shelf. If gelatin dessert is on your list, buy one box at 10 cents and put the other 90 cents in your pocket. I guarantee it will be on sale again some day. As far as coupons, use them if you were planning on buying the item anyway. But remember, often the in-house brand is cheaper than the name brand with a coupon.

Grocery Trick No. 4

This rule goes hand in hand with rule 3. Never, never grocery shop at a warehouse or super discount store. Don't tell me how cheap the prices are. It is a very disciplined person indeed who can walk through a warehouse of floor to ceiling sweaters, dvds, and cases of socks and not buy anything but the groceries on their list.

Grocery Trick No. 5

Leave your kids, husband, wife, partner at home when you grocery shop unless they have bought into the Cheap Chick Tricks. If you absolutely must bring your children, never make the mistake of buying them toy or junk food at the grocery store that they ask for. You will regret it.

Grocery Trick No. 6

Shop for groceries at the grocery store. But not just any grocery store. Search out the bag-your-own groceries, no-frills market. You won't find an in-house bank, coffee bar, or florist. There won't be the selection of a full-priced market or the high prices of the small store on the corner. The liquor department won't carry $50 bottles of wine (but they will have some real steals on wine -- see my tips on wine at the top of this page). However, they will have fresh herbs and pizza dough, and excellent olive oil. There aren't a hundred different brands of staples, just a couple of brands of milk, butter, yogurt, salad dressing (including their own house brand -- usually the cheapest by far). It's obvious, they're saving you money by not wasting food. You'll also have to bag your own groceries, but since you'll be face-to-face with someone else bagging his or her own groceries, you'll probably strike up a conversation. And that's free.

Try these tips for one month. See how much money you can save on food.

Copyright 2008 Cheap Chick Tricks.

Visit http://cheapchicktricks.com for real tricks for living cheaply.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Melodie_Johnson

Wanna more saving money tips? Plan you gifts purchase.
Before going to shop for the gifts, prepare and bring with you a shopping list. Money is very important in order to survive in this world but only a few people know how to organize their household budget in the right way. Many people find it difficult to money even if it is for their own good.

Most of the time, you may be motivated to save money but some times temptations come your way and before you know it, you have already spent the allocated amount that was supposed to be added to your savings account. Below are some helpful saving money tips on how you can avoid temptations and be able to save money:

Try hard to avoid or ignore those things that keep you from saving. If you are fond of buying shoes even if you don't really need them, try very hard to stay away from them. Keep yourself away from shoe stores so that you will not be tempted to buy one.

When going to grocery stores, always bring the exact amount and bring with you a grocery list. If you have limited money in your pocket when in grocery stores, you will be forced to buy only those important things that you need. Preparing a grocery list will also help you get organized and will help you in deciding the things that need to be prioritized.

Go to the malls only when needed. Do not go shopping if you do not need anything important to buy. Window-shopping will only tempt you to buy the dress you saw in the boutique even if you don't really need it.

Do not bring with you your credit cards all the time. Having a credit card in your pocket will only tempt you to buy things that are not necessary. This will also help you lower your balances and have a good credit score.

You may want to save money in the bank or invest in time deposits. You will not be tempted to get money from the bank every time you need cash, if they are placed in a time deposit account.

You may also want to consider consulting a financial advisor. There are a lot of programs that offer these services for free. They may be able to help you and give you advice on how you can avoid temptations and save more money.

E-Shop Murah Orihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00176385474071398271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2013714879899018666.post-6766094196904753642009-02-03T00:14:00.000-08:002009-02-03T00:18:10.664-08:00Teaching Teens to Save Money (saving money tips)Saving Money Tips - Teaching Teens to Save Money

Parents mostly complain that teenagers do not listen to them. The opposite is true when it comes to advice regarding 'money matters'. Teens actually welcome their parent’s input about their finances.

In the past few years, teenagers have earned billions of dollars with part-time and summer jobs. Some have spent most of what they earned, while others saved most or even all of it for a big purchase, or for their college education.

Kids these days are becoming more and more aware of their family's source of income and financial status. They apply these money-spending principles when they venture out on their own.

Thus, it becomes more of a parent’s responsibility to start “training” their teenage kids to use their money wisely.

Here are some ways on how you, as a parent, can teach your teens to save those hard-earned bucks:

1. Lead by example.
With your lifestyle, the children will see how you spend your money. If they see you allotting a certain amount for a specific household need, they will eventually do the same when they get to earn their own keep.

2. Help your teens get a bank account.
Establishing a bank account under their name would give them an instant financial responsibility.
Sit down and explain to them how to manage their own account, and the “rewards” that they get once they save enough. Their savings could go to their college tuition, or a big purchase like a car.

Additionally, it gives them a sense of accomplishment once they have saved up, with something concrete to show for it.

You may check out the special benefits that banks offer for teens who open their accounts at such an early age.

3. Construct a “spending plan”.
Once they hear the word 'budget', teens tend to cringe at the mere thought of having to restrict the spending of their money. Instead, you and your teen son or daughter could build a “spending plan”. This would get them excited, and think of ways on how they can wisely spend their savings. Also, have them list down their earnings versus their expenses.

Let them know the difference between the items that they need and the luxury items that they want, which they can actually do without.

4. Make a “mock” investment in the stock market.
Make them aware of the options that they have financially. Casually introduce to them the business part of your daily newspapers and have them make “mock” investments for companies who manufactures products that they like. Monitor the stocks together and this would give them another option of investing their money in the future.

If you are serious about teaching your children to save money, then you should grab a copy of "Teaching Children About Money - Raising Kid Entrepreneurs"E-Shop Murah Orihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00176385474071398271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2013714879899018666.post-66635688592046072162009-02-03T00:11:00.000-08:002009-02-03T00:13:55.639-08:00Essential Saving Money Tips for StudentsEssential Saving Money Tips for Students

It is easy to get caught in the rush of things when you are in college. In the midst of studying, part-time jobs, socializing and extracurricular activities that you have, you are most likely to forget one of the most important things, which is straightening out your finances.

Here are some saving money tips on how you can save money as a student:

1. Plan ahead.
If possible, do this even before you move into your dorm room. Check if you are eligible for scholarships and other grants before signing up for any form of student loan.

Construct a cash flow. First, where do you expect to get money from? Make a list of your “income”, be it from your parents, your student loan or your part-time job.

Then forecast your expected monthly or weekly expenses for food, books, etc. Once you have set aside a budget, be strict with yourself and stick to it.

You will never know what unexpected expenses would come your way so it is better to have a downfall for financial emergencies.

2. Save on food.
One of the major expenses that you have as a student which you might have ignored when you were still living with your parents is your food allowance. Avoid eating at fast food outlets, as this is most likely to ruin your budget. Pack your lunch and plan your meals as much as you can.

3. Take full advantage of student discounts.
Those ID’s in your wallet are not just for show. Student ID’s and memberships in organizations are honored in several establishments which offer discounts. Also, patronize a certain establishment regularly and you are bound to get bonus cards for being a loyal customer.

4. Use your cash as much as you can.
Since you already have a draft of the items where you will spend your money, it is easier to monitor your cash flow. Avoid using your debit card when you have cash with you. Use your credit cards or write checks only in emergencies. Having debit cards, credit cards and checks handy might lead you to overspend.

5. Keep yourself busy.
Join clubs according to your field of interest. Keeping busy will let your mind wander and help you stay away from things that you are likely to spend money on when you get bored. Examples of these are snacks, movie tickets or game rentals.

You will be surprised at the amount of money that you will actually save by spending less on luxury items, following your budget plan and saving for financial emergencies that you are most likely to get as a college student.E-Shop Murah Orihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00176385474071398271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2013714879899018666.post-29910951576463651062009-02-03T00:09:00.000-08:002009-02-03T00:10:55.425-08:00Setting Up a Family Budget (saving money tips )Saving Money Tips - Setting Up a Family Budget

For some, the idea of a budget is often a blur. It is frustrating to see how hard it is to do a budget and realizing that with one wrong purchase, you can actually ruin the entire thing. And this has been a perennial headache for most homemakers.

It is about time to overhaul the way people look at budgeting. It can actually be a great way to keep track of your family's expenditures and help you evaluate the things that you spend the lion's share of the family's earnings on.

What is a budget? A budget is a tool for handling your finances by controlling the family's expenditures in a way that money is enough for paying up bills, and still ensuring that savings are set aside for future expenses - vacations, or children's education, or even for retirement.

Try these simple steps in preparing a no fret family budget, and see the benefits of intelligent spending.

1. Gather three months of your pay stubs and get your average monthly earnings.

2. Get out three months of your monthly bills. Do this for the fixed expenses like the rent, phone bill, car payments and other loans that come monthly. Add them up and get the average. Do the same for other expenses like groceries, and credit card bills.

3. Evaluate the results of your computations. Looking at your average monthly earnings against your monthly fixed expenses and other monthly expenses, think of some ways to economize. Cut back on some items that are somehow unnecessary.

4. Knowing the facts of your income and expenses, develop a family budget and try to stick to this monthly budget.

5. Now that you have a monthly budget, set up a savings account. Save up by making regular deposits to this account.

6. Keep track of this monthly family budget just to see if it is working for you. Try to fine-tune the "rough edges" of this budget as you go along.

7. If you can get hold of a personal budgeting software or spreadsheet application to keep record of your budget, the better. This will make organizing your expenses very easy.

These are the basic steps in developing and implementing a no fret, easy to stick to monthly family budget. Of course each family has diverse needs and wants. You have the freedom to develop your own monthly family budget, depending on your family’s financial background and needs. No matter how you do it, just focus on the end result, which is building a savings that leads to a bright and financially stable future for your family.E-Shop Murah Orihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00176385474071398271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2013714879899018666.post-71190703724578878082009-02-03T00:06:00.000-08:002009-02-03T00:08:18.121-08:00Secrets of Keeping to The Family Budget (saving money tips)Saving Money Tips - Secrets of Keeping to the Family Budget

The high cost of living in today's society, wherever you may be, has made budgeting a priority among families. In today's inflationary world, nothing is more important than knowing how to wisely spend the meager income that you get.

Financial problems usually arise due to lack of proper budgeting skills, or failure to keep to the proposed budget. No matter how much income you may have, it is still important to keep track of your assets and liabilities, your earnings and expenses.

It is ironic but a person who earns thousands will have the same problems with the person who earns by the hundreds. Most often, different kinds of people, with diverse income levels, have budgeting problems. Others who may have been successful in making a budget, usually fail to keep within such a budget.

A budget refers to a financial plan, taking the incoming and outgoing monetary resources into consideration. A good budget should not only mean a balance or equity between income and expenditures. It also means lesser expenses, and making an allowance for savings.

If you earn a thousand dollars per month, you should map out all the necessary expenses you will have to incur during the month such as payment for your house, food and transportation. Of course, this is presuming that your tax liabilities have already been settled. What remains after you deduct your total expenses from your income is your savings.

What you do with your savings will make a difference later on, when the need arises. You can choose to keep your savings in a piggy bank or place it in a bank where there is minimum interest rate but at least your money is safe from you and from intruders. With a bigger savings, you can get the services of a financial adviser who can give you higher-yielding investment options

Here are saving money tips to make sure that you keep within the family budget:

1. Maintain a logbook where you can list your income and expense account on a weekly or monthly schedule.

2. Buy your groceries at one time. To do this, make a list of all the things that you would need for your target period and purchase them at one time. Sometimes, there are discounts if you buy by the dozen so take advantage of this.

3. Avoid going to the supermarket and shops if you do not need to buy necessary items. This will keep you from making unnecessary purchases and keep you from straying away from your budget.

4. Think twice before you buy something. By doing this, you will realize that it is not really a necessity but a whim.E-Shop Murah Orihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00176385474071398271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2013714879899018666.post-41073242873604200282009-02-03T00:03:00.000-08:002009-02-03T00:06:09.357-08:00How to Save Money for Tuition Fees (saving money tips)Saving Money Tips - "How to Save Money for Tuition Fees”

As soon as their child is born, parents can start saving up for their children’s college education. With tuition fees climbing up yearly, it is better to have a sound financial plan so that it would not be difficult for you to send your kids off to college when they grow up.

Aside from the cash that you have saved yourself, here are the top 3 sources that can help you get your kids through college:

1. Scholarship grants
2. Part-time jobs
3. Financial aids

These are good alternative sources for your children to start off on their college education.

But as a parent, you would not want to fall in those long lines for financial aid or let your child work himself to death just to have money for tuition and other expenses.

Here are some ways on how you can have a jump start at shaving off those hard-earned bucks for your child’s college education:

1. The earlier, the better.
Start investing your money as soon as your child is born. First, put the savings or investments under your name. Later on, decide whether you want to transfer the account to your child’s name by the time he or she turns 15. This way, you will have minimal taxes, if at all.

However, you need to be careful when transferring account names.

Some states require a total turnover of funds once your child turns 18 or 21. This is also ineffective if, in the future, you apply for financial aid.

Also remember that tuition fees 10 or 15 years from now may double or even triple the current rates.

2. Establish a trust fund for your child.
This is a very wise plan for a child’s parents or relatives to invest in. A trust fund is similar to a time-deposit where the money will be given to your child after a certain number of years.

After the designated time, the fund may be received in one lump sum or through an installment basis. When building up a trust fund, check out details like the interest rates, taxes and withdrawal restrictions.

All in all, you need to approximate the costs of tuition fees, dorm room, meals, books, and other expenses that may come up. Make sure that you invest money wisely as your child grows.

By the time that there are only two or three years to go before you send your son or daughter off to college, "lock" an ample amount of the funds by investing them in low-risk bonds to ensure that you will get to have enough for them to start their college education.E-Shop Murah Orihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00176385474071398271noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2013714879899018666.post-47119184281988633342009-02-03T00:01:00.000-08:002009-02-03T00:02:45.219-08:00Cutting your Kids' Schooling Costs (saving money tips)Saving Money Tips - Cutting your Kids' Schooling Costs

Whenever the school season is just around the corner, there's only one thing that parents are thinking about - the impending costs. Education is a primary right and a pertinent need of every child but it can become very costly. Availing of scholarships and education grants for your children is the best way to get them through schooling. But of course, only a small percentage of children can be given these privileges.

There are simple and effective measures that parents can employ in cutting the costs of their children schooling, especially during the back-to-school season. Most often, these measures are often taken for granted, but don't miss out!

Organize and Save
Keep an inventory of your children school supplies and keep it organized. If you are not organized, you will be spending more money on replenishing your supplies. Small things like pencils and crayons may not cost too much, but if you replenish your supplies unnecessarily, you are losing valuable money.

You should also try involving the kids when making the inventory. This will give them a sense of ownership for their things and would know where to take and put their things.

Tax Holidays
Tax holidays are often offered by many states during the back-to-school season. Price ceilings will be put on different school gears. You might want to do a little research and ask about the schedule and the details of the tax holidays in your area.

Bulk Buying
It's a basic economic principle - "the more you buy, the more you save". Well, this is applicable if you are buying a specific item which you will really need in the near future. In buying pencils, for example, you might want to buy a box rather than buying one for each of your kids. Face it, you will be needing to replenish these after some time, so might as well avail of the lower price by buying in bulk.

Transportation
You might want to consider buying your child a bicycle for him to bring to school. This, of course, is not always feasible. Finding a cheap and safe way to bring your children to school daily is an important thing. Car pools and school transportation services are options that you can look at.

Snacks
Whenever you have the time and energy to prepare food for your children, do so. You will not only be saving on the pocket money that you will give to them but you are also secured that your children are eating healthy and safe meals.

Getting your children through school is a hard task and a costly one. Saving money through practical and simple means can assist you in this endeavor. The benefits will eventually add up to bring a brighter future to your children.E-Shop Murah Orihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00176385474071398271noreply@blogger.com0
