Saving Money Tips - 6 Tips on How to Save Money When Shopping

Most people especially women loves shopping. Shopping can be very addictive. Some people choose shopping as a therapy to stress. Shopping should not make you broke as long as you know how to budget. Below are six tips about shopping you need to remember:

Tips No. 1
Always bear in mind to spend your money wisely during your shopping time. Spend time in listing all the items you need to buy. This is to avoid you from buying unnecessary items. Take with you only the exact amount needed to buy all the listed items.

Tips No. 2
Buy in bulk. Items that are packed in bulk normally are way more cheaper than the items packed individually. If you go shopping with friends or family members, gather all list and see if there's items in common.

Tips No. 3
Always compare prices between stores before deciding buying any item. Though you have your favorite stores, do not hesitate to do survey and make price comparison between stores. To help you with the task, you can collect the promo flyers, catalog or list of items on sale from all the stores. Besides, always pay attention to the items that you buy on a periodic basis. This too can save you a lot of time during the price comparison.

Tips No. 4
Do your shopping at the end of the season. Clothes are often being offered at a huge discount during this time of the year. Stores normally do stock clearance on that time. For instance, if you are looking for summer wear clothing, then you may buy clothes in the months of August and September.

Tips No. 5
Do your shopping after your meal. This is because, if you shop during your hunger, you tend to buy more of the impulse items.

Tips No. 6
Find discount stores that offer your desired item at affordable price but still at a high quality. The prices at these kind of stores normally vary according to the season.

I hope these saving money tips on shopping are helpful. Sometimes reading a simple list like this help you to remember little things that can help you in your shopping budget.

10 Tips That Will Help Teens To Save Money (saving money tips)

Looking for saving money tips related to kids or teens? Find below a very interesting and inspiring article on saving money tips. Happy reading!

10 Tips That Will Help Teens To Save Money
By: charlemont

A cornerstone of building a sound financial future for your teenager is to teach him or her her effective strategies to save money. Sounds easy, but even many adults don't know how to do it. And that could be because no one ever taught them. Parents can show their teens ways to save money by serving real-life examples.

The tips on how to save money are easy to use. In fact, there are no complications involved. Patience and persistence are needed, sure, but no special education or knowledge is required. Here's a list of ways to save money specially created for teens.

1. Do not put your computer in "standby" mode. Instead, shut it down. Do same with the monitor. While the power consumption in standby mode is little, it still adds up over the year. Same applies to all electronic appliances.

2. Take shower instead of bath. This will lower water bills tremendously. Also, use the possibilities to take shower outside home. For me, with two weekly visits to a swimming pool, it's easy and natural.

3. If you do not plan to buy anything, then do not take cash when leaving home. If you have no cash in the purse or pocket, you can't spend it. Sounds simple and works great.

4. Have your parents open a savings account for you. Depending on the financial institution, your starting deposit can be as low as 1 dollar. Not much, right? But with due attitude and dedication, you'll start making a small fortune pretty quickly.

5. Pay yourself first. Set aside part of your income for savings, before spending anything. When give allowance or any unexpected sum of money, take out 10% of it and save. Make a habit of spending less than you get. It will help to pave the way for financially prosperous future.

6. Set goals that appeal to you. Decide what you want -- a multimedia computer or a bike? Perhaps your parents will add some 10% of the sum. When you want something badly, saving is easier.

7. Plan major purchases ahead. Same applies to parties. Wait at least a week or so before purchasing. Chances are, you will change your mind or the price will drop. In both cases, you win.

8. Monthly allowance will teach you to save and spend wise. When you have to cover a month of expenses, the temptation to spend half of the allowance at once won't seize you.

9. Keep a checkbook. It's an old-fashioned method to put down records of all money received and spent. Doing so helps teens know where they stand financially. Analyzing your records over the month you'll discover where you could spend less, or when you bought something you didn't really need.

10. Get a piggy bank for a change. Use only dollar bills when paying. When the year is over, you'll have a lump sum of saved money to buy Christmas gifts.

By saving money teens learn patience and persistence. Every teen who embraces even one of these habits is well on his or her way to financial stability. It doesn't really matter how many of these tips you try to use. Start with just one, and when mastered enough, get to another. Saving money is what makes teens financially aware for the adult life.

Cheap Text Books Are A Great Way To Save Money If You’re A College Student (saving money tips)

We would like to share this article we found on the net about saving money tips on educations. It is so interesting, thus we hope you enjoy your reading and apply the saving money tips recommended here. Happy reading!

Cheap Text Books Are A Great Way To Save Money If You’re A College Student.
by Muna wa Wanjiru

If you’re in college you most likely fit the stereotype of the poor college student, eating ramen and sucking down coffee to stay fed and awake for your late-night study sessions. College is expensive, and with some private college tuitions reaching over $35,000 it’s easy to come out of a four year university over $100,000 in debt.

Of course, tuition doesn’t cover everything; college students still need to pay for things like housing, clothes, food, and books. Many students’ schedules make it hard, if not impossible, to work a part-time job while in school, especially if they take part in any extracurricular activities. Summer work is about all that’s available, and summer jobs can be low priorities to students looking for solid internships to help out their graduate school or future employment opportunities. Unfortunately, many of the best internships are unpaid, leaving students even more strapped for cash.

One of the most unexpected expenses for first-year college students is when the first walk into the bookstore. Sure, if you’re a first-year you realize that you’re going to have to buy books, but there’s a good chance you didn’t realize that the books for one semester can easily cost $1,000. “But wait, it’s probably not so bad,” the first-years argue, “I can just sell my books back at the end of the semester and get my money back.” Though this strategy may work for some students, for most it’s nothing but a pipe dream.

It’s rare for a book to fetch more than half of its cover price when it’s resold to a bookstore. Also, professors often change textbooks or won’t teach the same course from one semester to the next, so your local college bookstore may not even take your books back. This is fine if you’re an English major reading Jane Eyre or Catcher in the Rye, at least you can build up your personal book collection, but if you get stuck with something like Practical Economics the book will probably do nothing but gather dust on the shelves.

Cheap text books are a great way to save money if you’re a college student, but they can sometimes be tough to track down. Used books are by far the easiest way to find cheap text books; they can often be found right alongside the new books in your campus bookstore. An even better way to find cheap text books is to by them directly from students at the end of a semester. If you know what classes you’ll be taking and what textbooks they’ll require it’s easy to find cheap text books from the students who are already in the class and looking to sell off their books. By cutting out the middleman you can find cheap text books and they can sell their books at a better profit.

Home Solar Power: Save Money With Your Own Home Solar Power System (saving money tips)

Looking for saving money tips on utility? One way to save money on electricity is by installing your own home solar power. Find below another great saving money tips.

Home Solar Power: Save Money With Your Own Home Solar Power System
Author: WChurchill

Home solar power systems convert sunlight into electricity through the use of solar panels. For an average home about ten watts per square foot of electrical energy will be gathered per day. This will vary depending on a number of factors including panel size and type, amount of sunlight, and length of time direct sunlight is available.

A home solar power system will cost considerably more as an initial investment, but will be very cost effective in the long run. There are two main reasons for considering home solar power. First, of course, is the saving on your electric utility bill and secondly is the fact that solar power is renewable and environmentally friendly. There are NO polluting side effects.

There are 5 main components of a home solar power system that is connected to the electric grid. If you choose to be totally off-grid, it will also be necessary to have a storage battery to store excess energy your system generates.

• Solar panels
• Power converter
• An electric panel
• A utility meter
• The utility grid
• A storage battery unit (for off grid)

Solar panels are normally placed on the roof of your house, but may also be placed in any area that receives direct sunlight. Either installation must be placed to receive as much direct sunlight as possible. The solar panels convert sunlight into DC power.

The power converter is necessary to change the DC power into AC power which is what you receive from an electric utility. AC or alternating current is what household lights and appliances use.

The electric panel brings the power from the power converter to the breaker box. It is then distributed to the lights and outlets in the house.
In an on-grid system the electric utility meter handles excess power from your system, causing your electric meter to run backwards when your system is supplying power to the utility grid. If you use this you receive credit from the electric utility that is applied against what you need from them when your home solar power system does not cover your usage.

And the last component in an on-grid system, the utility grid, will supply you with electricity during the night, on cloudy days, and when you need more electricity than your home solar power system produces.

If you will not be connected to the grid system -- whether by choice or because the location is remote and not supplied with electricity, you will also need a storage battery unit to store the excess power from your home solar power system for use at night.

Is a home solar power system right for you? Maybe. Even though the initial costs are higher, the payback may well be worth considering. If you are building, remodeling, or even refinancing your home, the cost of home solar power can be included in the mortgage. Also, keep in mind that both state and federal governments offer attractive tax incentives when you install a home solar power system.

And best of all – wouldn't be GREAT to never pay another electric bill ?

Air Conditioners - How to Cut Running Costs in Half (saving money tips)

One way to save money is by managing the way you use your air conditioners. Find below a great saving money tips on air conditioners. Hope you enjoy this saving money tips. Happy reading!

Air Conditioners - How to Cut Running Costs in Half
Author: Ethan K. Roberts

In today's world, most people have invested in one form of an air conditioner or another. We have either window air conditioners in our homes or central air conditioners. They keep us cool in the extreme summer heat without fail; however, have you ever set back and looked at the costs of running an air conditioner? When compared to the common household fan the amount of electricity required to run an air conditioner is phenomenal.

When using an air conditioner there are many different factors that can directly affect the cost of running it. These factors include the geographical location of your home, where you live and the amount of work the air conditioner has to do greatly influence the cost. If you live in an area that has mild summers and extremely cold winters, obviously your air conditioner will not have to work as hard. However, if you live in an area, that has warm winters and boiling summers the air conditioner will have to work double time to maintain comfort.

The difference in weather conditions from year to year will affect the costs as well. This is basically geared towards the difference in costs per year. One summer might be cooler than the next, which will lead to a greater bill.

The efficiency rating of your air conditioner plays an important role in the amount of electricity used. Most all appliances in today's world are rated, when you purchase an air conditioner it will have a tag telling you the amount of electricity that appliance uses. Look for air conditioners that use minimal electricity, which will save you money each year. If you have a model that is 10 years or older, it is definitely time to consider a new one.

Another important factor is the size of the air conditioner versus the house-cooling load. All air conditioners come in different sizes, and each will state the amount of space it is designed to cool. For example, an apartment could do with just one or two window air conditioners, while a three-bedroom house could not. Closely consider the amount of space you need to cool when considering an air conditioner. While larger air conditioners will cost more money, it will typically save you money in the long run on usage.

The setting on your thermostat greatly effects the cost. A higher setting will result in the air conditioner running less, while lowering the setting will cause it to run more often. One electric company suggests keeping the thermostat above 78 degrees. This can save you 10 to 20% on cooling costs.

Finally, the local cost of electricity influences the general cost of running your air conditioner. This is something you have no control over, however, you can control your own cost by saving energy.

Here is a general look at the difference of running an air conditioner vs. running a Ceiling or oscillating fan, at medium speed.

Running a central air conditioner that is three ton (and of average efficiency) for 8 hours per day for 15 days per month, with the average rate per kWh (kilowatt per hour) being 0.17, the average cost per month for the air conditioner alone will be $97.92. Amazing isn't it? This does not even include washer, dryer, lights, refrigerator, or stove, only the air conditioner.

On the other hand, running a ceiling fan or oscillating fan at medium speed, for 8 hours per day, for a full 30 days, at an average rate per kWh of 0.035 is only $1.43. With this comparison you could run 68 fans for a full month before you would reach the cost of the central air conditioning unit.

There are many other things you can do to lower you electric bill. Things such as, inspect, clean, or replace your air conditioner filters monthly. When you are not in your home, raise the temperature on your thermostat, keeping in mind pets when you do. Lower the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees, wash only full loads in your dishwasher or clothes washer, and use the energy saving cycle on the dryer.

Other steps you can take include, replacing incandescent bulbs with fluorescent lamps, this could save up to 75% on lighting costs. You should also caulk all windows, doors, and pipes to prevent air leaks in or out, use weather stripping around windows, doors and pipes as well. Have your ducts tested for air leaks; leaking ducts can reduce the efficiency of your air conditioner by up to 20%.

Ethan K. Roberts writes on a variety of topics not limited to air conditioners. Also available are more articles about central air conditioners and portable air conditioners.

Save Money on your Household Utility Bills and help the Environment (saving money tips)

Want to find ways to save money on your utility bills? Find below a very interesting articles on saving money tips. Enjoy you enjoy our recommended saving money tips.

Save Money on your Household Utility Bills and help the Environment.
Author: Chris Courtis

With the cost of living increasing it is becoming harder to find areas where money can be saved. By doing a few simple tasks around your house you could save money in a number of different ways. Read below for the top tips that can be used and you can help with cutting emissions.

Save Money on Heating

Loft Insulation
Make sure that the loft in the house is fully insulated; remember heat rises and most of the heat that you generate in your house is lost through the roof. It is simple to buy good quality loft insulation from all the main DIY superstores and this could be one investment very much worth making.

Good Quality Windows
Ensure that your windows are in good condition, no broken or cracked pains, the wood surround is in good condition, the paintwork is kept in good order with regular refreshes of paint to stop rot and damp. Double glazed windows are a must if you want to keep the heat in and stop the cold and damp from coming through. If the budget extends then even some new replacement windows could be a great investment.

Internal and External Doors
Make sure that you have good external doors, these should be double glazed also and be fitted properly with seals for the letter box and the surrounds. The internal doors in the house should all shut properly and make good seals and have draft excluders where appropriate.

Save Money on Electricity

Energy Saving Light Bulbs
Fit energy saving light bulbs to all your main lights, this not only helps to keep your electricity bills down but at the same time you are doing your part for the environment. On average the light saving bulb will last up to 12 times longer than the normal light bulb and reduce the amount of electricity required by reducing the amount of electricity lost in heat compared to a standard bulb.

No Electrical Equipment on Standby
Make sure you turn your electrical equipment and sockets off when you are not using them, especially television, videos, DVD players that have standby modes, these use more electricity than you would think.

Electrical Safety Checks
Get your wiring and circuits professionally checked to ensure that your appliances are working to their optimum capacity.

Save Money on Gas

Regular Gas Safety Checks
Make sure you keep your boiler serviced and well maintained in order to improve efficiency.

Insulate the Hot Water Tank
Ensure that your hot water tank is also well insulated to keep the heat in and keeps the water hotter longer. You can buy a jacket for the tank from the DIY stores and remember that it is worth insulating the pipes as well.

Save Money on Water

Toilet Flush
If you want to reduce the amount of water that the toilet cistern uses for each flush then there are devices available from DIY shops that can be used to reduce the amount of water used. These are easily fitted and can reduce the amount of water used per flush by as much as 1 litre.

Shower don't Bath
Take showers instead of baths this reduces the amount of water that is used and will save you money on heating the water and the amount of water used. A bath can take between 15 ? 25 gallons of water where as a shower uses around 60% less water than the bath.

Summary
Doing just a few of these will help to save you money; some require more of an initial outlay than others but are well worth doing in the long term. If you own your own house then it could be a good investment and if you are renting a property then instruct your letting agent/landlord to make a plan of necessary changes to help protect the environment, their property and your pocket.

Several Ways to Save Electricity and Energy in the Kitchen (saving money tips)

Looking for saving money tips on utilities? Below are an interesting articles we found on the net and we are sharing with you. We hope you enjoy reading the saving money tips and apply the recommended tips. Enjoy reading!

Several Ways to Save Electricity and Energy in the Kitchen
by H. Y. Wong

There are several ways in which we can save electricity and energy in the kitchen. One way is to see if we can reduce the cooking times. Another way is to see if a different appliance does the same job and yet uses less energy. Yet another way is to see if we can reduce wastage. Here are some tips.

1. Defrost food first before cooking it. You can do it in a fridge overnight or in a microwave if you want the defrosting done quickly.

2. Put a lid on the pan when you're cooking. When a pan is covered, heat loss is reduced. That means you can set the stove on low to keep the content simmering. The cooking time will also be reduced.

3. Use a pressure cooker to cook foods. Since it operates at a higher pressure, water therefore boils at a higher temperature. The higher temperature of the water and steam causes the food to be cooked much faster, using less energy.

4. Don't use a small pan on a large burner. Match the sizes of the pan and of the heating element.

5. Use flat-bottomed pans instead of warped-bottom ones, particularly when cooking on electric stove.

6. Stir fry meat and vegetables. It takes more time to chop up the meat, but the meat then cooks much quicker.

7. Use a kettle to boil water instead of using a stove top burner. Boil only the amount of water that is needed, whether it is for making tea or for cooking.

8. When baking in the oven, experiment to see if preheating time can be kept to a minimum or done away all together.

9. Try not to open the oven door to check on cooking progress as a lot of heat escapes otherwise. It can be helpful having an oven thermometer or an oven-safe meat thermometer.

10. Where possible, use a microwave oven. Microwaves uses a considerable amount of energy when in use but it more than makes up for it by the much reduced cooking times. It draws much less electricity than an electric oven for the same job.

11. Use a toaster oven to do small baking jobs instead of an oven. Using a toaster oven decreases the area to be heated and in so doing saves energy. Use it for things like baking potatoes, fish sticks, chicken nuggets etc.

12. Use a convection microwave that offers, within the same unit, microwave, convection oven and grill features. Some of these microwave ovens can cook food using both convection and microwave at the same time, providing crisp brown exteriors and retaining juiciness for meats and chickens.

13. Use a steamer for cooking meals like fish and vegetables. It cannot burn the food and has a relatively low power consumption.

14. Use a crock pot (slow cooker) instead of a stove top burner to cook soups and stews that typically take a long time. It will let these dishes simmer gently.

15. Use a thermal cooker for things like soups and stews. A thermal cooker has 2 parts: an inner pan and an outer container. The inner pan is used to bring foods to a boil on a stove. It is then placed inside the insulated outer container and sealed until cooked.

16. Use an induction cooker. It uses magnetic induction to transfer heat from the cooker to the pan on the surface. The cooktop surface also stays relatively cool while the food in the pan is cooking. Induction cookers have a very high energy efficiency, much higher than traditional stoves.

17. Use an electricity monitor to measure the electrical usage of various electrical appliances in the kitchen.

The last point is worth mentioning in a little more detail. Some electricity monitors not only measure the electricity consumption but also work out the actual cost. All you have to do is to input the electric rate found on the utility bill and the monitor does the calculation for you.

Using an electricity monitor, you can find out the usage costs of your kitchen electrical appliances and then come up with your own list of energy saving tips and ideas.

Find out more information about electricity monitor and other practical electrical gadgets. You will also discover many other interesting household gadgets on the web site.

Save Gas and Lower Your Cost of Transportation (saving money tips)

Looking for saving money tips on gas? Here are interesting saving money tips that you can apply. Enjoy reading! and apply the saving money tips recommended here.

Save Gas and Lower Your Cost of Transportation

The best way to save gas is to leave your car in the driveway. The more it sits in the driveway, the less often you'll need to take it to the gas station, and that means you save gas and save money. It's a simple approach and it works very well.

Think about how many dollars in fuel each of your trips require, and you might be surprised how much discretionary trips are costing you. Each discretionary trip that you avoid will help you save gas and save money.

There are plenty of things each of us can do to save gas, but as you probably know, there is a different kind of price we have to be willing to pay. Often that price comes in the form of inconvenience or a shift in lifestyle.

If you want to get serious about saving gas, I have 36 ideas to share with you. Some of the most effective of these are:

    * Buy fuel in bulk during annual low prices. That means stocking up on 500 to 1,500 gallons of fuel during January or February. A big money saver, but not feasible for many people who live in urban areas.
    * Minimize the times and distances you drive your car for discretionary purposes by planning your activities. This means that some days you don't drive at all.
    * Live closer to where you often need to go. This could eliminate the need for a motor vehicle entirely. What a great way to save money.
    * Use alternate transportation, such as a bicycle, bus, train or consider walking. The thought doesn't feel right to many of us, as we love our cars and the convenience and freedom they give us, but we do have choices other than our motor vehicles.
    * Tele-commute. A great way to cut the cost of transportation and reduce stress. If you have a job that would fit a tele-commuting scenario, run the idea by your employer. Even part time tele-commuting can make a big difference in the amount of money you spend on fuel.

In my own personal crusade to save gas and lower my overall cost of living, I have taken the following steps to reduce my fuel consumption and lower my transportation costs. I have reduced fuel costs by about 75% now that I:

    * Operate a home-based business that allows me to tele-commute.
    * Wait until I have several reasons before making a trip, especially for errands.
    * Share errands and driving with my neighbors.
    * Buy fuel in bulk at the lowest price of the year. This saves up to $1 per gallon.
    * Reside in a less congested area.
    * Purchase vehicles with a deliberate focus on fuel efficiency.
    * Drive more conservatively.

My perspective on fuel prices and the cost of transportation is simple. No one is going to save me from unwise decision-making except me, so I better get with it. I can't influence the energy markets, but I can influence my own personal choices in light of those marketplaces.

Save Real Money on Groceries

I'm at the grocery store waiting in line to pay for my groceries and I indulge in one of my favorite past times -- checking out the shopping carts of other people. I take note of the woman in front of me and what's in her basket. Name brand potato chips, flour and cereal. She's loaded up on the gelatin dessert that the store has on sale. Pre-packaged meals, frozen dinners. Nail polish and floor cleaner.

Oh, the money I could save money on this woman on her groceries. Fortunately, here are the Cheap Chick Tricks for grocery shopping for you.

Grocery Trick No. 1

Go to the market just once a week, on the same day of the week. This may prove harder than it sounds, but it will save you money. How? The first is obvious: your transportation costs. Secondly, it will focus your efforts. You know you're there to shop for food and you need to get one week's worth of food. It eliminates those multiple runs to the grocery store to just pick up a quart of milk and some bread, where you walk out with $50 worth of stuff.

Grocery Trick No. 2

Go to the market with a list and a not-to-exceed budget. Your list will come from your menus for the week. That means you've got to come up with seven dinners, seven lunches, and seven breakfasts, plus any snacks for the week, figure out the groceries you'll need for each and write it down. You are not going to buy anything that is not on that list. That means if you run out of celery, you'll wait a week to buy it. (See Trick No. 1 above). No quick trips to the local store mid-week. Set an amount that you are going to spend on groceries (including eating out) and don't go over it. Bring a set amount of cash to pay for your groceries, if that makes it easier.

Grocery Trick No. 3

Never stock up. What? Am I crazy? Let's see why I say never stock up. How many times have you made banana bread with leftover bananas? Or, more likely, thrown them out? Let's say flavored gelatin dessert is on sale for ten packages for one dollar. It's not on your list, but at that price, you eagerly throw ten boxes into your cart. You've just spent a dollar you don't need to. If you buy those ten boxes, chances are pretty good a year from now nine of them will still be sitting on the shelf. If gelatin dessert is on your list, buy one box at 10 cents and put the other 90 cents in your pocket. I guarantee it will be on sale again some day. As far as coupons, use them if you were planning on buying the item anyway. But remember, often the in-house brand is cheaper than the name brand with a coupon.

Grocery Trick No. 4

This rule goes hand in hand with rule 3. Never, never grocery shop at a warehouse or super discount store. Don't tell me how cheap the prices are. It is a very disciplined person indeed who can walk through a warehouse of floor to ceiling sweaters, dvds, and cases of socks and not buy anything but the groceries on their list.

Grocery Trick No. 5

Leave your kids, husband, wife, partner at home when you grocery shop unless they have bought into the Cheap Chick Tricks. If you absolutely must bring your children, never make the mistake of buying them toy or junk food at the grocery store that they ask for. You will regret it.

Grocery Trick No. 6

Shop for groceries at the grocery store. But not just any grocery store. Search out the bag-your-own groceries, no-frills market. You won't find an in-house bank, coffee bar, or florist. There won't be the selection of a full-priced market or the high prices of the small store on the corner. The liquor department won't carry $50 bottles of wine (but they will have some real steals on wine -- see my tips on wine at the top of this page). However, they will have fresh herbs and pizza dough, and excellent olive oil. There aren't a hundred different brands of staples, just a couple of brands of milk, butter, yogurt, salad dressing (including their own house brand -- usually the cheapest by far). It's obvious, they're saving you money by not wasting food. You'll also have to bag your own groceries, but since you'll be face-to-face with someone else bagging his or her own groceries, you'll probably strike up a conversation. And that's free.
